Animallives.org is a web application developed by Yale and NASA for scientists to track the movement of animal lives around the world. I worked alongside 3 other product designers to identify the animallives.org target audience and build a working high fidelity prototype for the next stage of development. We wore many hats as product designers for this project, working on research, information architecture, UX design, storytelling, and UI design.

At the 2022 Patagonia x Adobe design challenge, my submission placed in the top 20. FairCloset is an app for fashion consumers who want to be more conscious about how their clothing is sourced and manufactured.

Zeekr 001 Redesign
Automotive UX

In this case study I redesigned certain aspects of one of the most exciting new players in the EV (electric vehicle) market, the Zeekr 001, to better reflect industry standards, empower users, and communicate with the new, younger generation of drivers.

User Research

I conducted research at UofMichigan to figure out how the move-in and move-out process can be improved and made more sustainable. The research helped me ideate new IKEA programs which might meet the needs of college and graduate students.

Taydo
Product Design

Taydo is a mobile app for workspaces such as offices, classrooms, or community centers that aims to foster deep interpersonal connections through gratitude. The app helps facilitate a “hot potato”-esque game that incentivizes teammates to pass an item of gratitude to other teammates as a way of showing appreciation or saying thanks.

Hi, I’m Juan. I find some of my greatest life excitements in connecting people from different backgrounds. At work, this means collaborating closely with team members or advocating for marginalized user groups through inclusive design. Outside of work, I love to cook, explore museums, and DJ (I'm still getting the hang of that)!

I'm currently in Chicago building KHAI, Kraft Heinz's first company-wide AI chatbot. I also work on various contract and personal design projects in my 5-to-9.

What is User Experience design?

In abstract, I define User Experience (UX) Design as making tasks or experiences more engaging, intuitive, beautiful, and meaningful for people. A designer's job is to understand a system then advocate for user wants and needs. Designers should give users a sense of control and intuitive understanding of products. Additionally, designers should nudge users in new directions to encourage exploration and experimentation of products and experiences.
